I have always hated writing bios. How do you sum up your life into a couple of paragraphs? How do you write about your credentials without sounding like a raging narcissist?
So, what about me? Why am I doing this? I recently retired and I needed something to fill my days. Instead of working at Walmart for minimum wage, I thought I might do something that actually interests me. I needed a project that would get me out and about, indulge my natural curiosity, and keep my mind active.
What are my goals here? I used to teach interns at university and I always advised my interns to set a goal for their internships. How do you know you are successful, if you do not know what you wish to achieve?
We moved to Delmarva nine years ago. I knew nothing about this region before we moved here, and to be honest my first impressions were mixed. But as time passed, I have come to love the region between the Chesapeake and the sea. So, one goal I have is to highlight the charms of Delmarva.
I am an experienced traveler and a bit of an adventurer. I have circumnavigated the globe more than a dozen times. I have visited more than 30 countries and I have lived in the US, Canada, Australia, Belgium, the UK, and China. I love fine food, and good wine. I am an avid hiker and explorer. I enjoy good theater, cultural experiences, and learning about new people and places. I have a passion for publishing, in fact my entire career has been in publishing and teaching. For an all too brief period I even worked for a travel magazine in Hawaii.
I do not pretend that I am an expert on any of the subject matter of this blog. My goal here is to write about my travel experiences from the perspective of an experienced more mature traveler. My focus will be on the Delmarva Peninsula, because it is where I live. But I will also write about my travels outside of Delmarva.
This website is not intended for everyone. It is for the more mature, relaxed, and sophisticated traveler. This blog is about fine food, good wine, and relaxing strolls down city streets, the gentle countryside and quaint villages. I intend to rate all the things I do and places I go. But my ratings are not definitive, and they reflect my preferences and perceptions. I have no doubt that people may hold very different views about the places I visit and things I do. Feel free to comment, as long as you are civil.
