Bombay Tadka, Easton, MD

Mark’s Score   8.5

I am always in the market for good Asian cuisine. I am a fan of almost all Asian cuisines, Indian cuisine is my favorite. So, I am especially excited to find a new Indian restaurant.  For me, Indian is Asian comfort food. Which brings me to Bombay Tadka in Easton. Bombay Tadka has great reviews on Yelp, so I was anxious to give it a try.

Bombay Tadka is owned by Rohit Shinde, a native of Mumbai, India. He also owns Bombay Social in Cambridge. He opened Bombay Tadka in 2020 with local partners, Scott and Tammy Saunders. Bombay Tadka’s mission is to introduce the Eastern Shore to the flavors of Indian cuisine. They emphasize freshly prepared dishes and authentic spices of Mumbai street-food, all the while making Indian cuisine accessible to an audience unfamiliar with India’s cuisine.

The other day I was in St Michaels for work so I decided to have lunch at Bombay Tadka on my way back to Salisbury. For those of you unfamiliar with this restaurant, it is a bit hard to find. It is not located downtown or on the restaurant corridors along routes 50 and 332. It is located in an unassuming strip mall hidden among dozens of doctors’ offices on Idlewild Ave. As there is no sign in front, you can easily miss it.

Even though it was well past 12:00, the restaurant was empty when I arrived. After a few moments a waiter came from out back and sat me at a table by the window. The décor of the dining room was a mix of modern with a sprinkling of Indian decorations.  The walls, ceiling and floor were all variations of grey with blond wood tables and chairs. I can’t fault any single design element, but I thought as a whole, it just didn’t mesh together well.

This was my first time eating at this restaurant, so I decided to go very traditional. I ordered a samosa starter with chicken korma for my main. To wash it all down, I ordered a Kingfisher Beer. Kingfisher is India’s most popular beer, so it seemed appropriate.

The presentation of the food is important.  The food is the star of the show, so I appreciate it when a restaurant makes an effort in creating a pleasing presentation, and I give Bombay Tadka high marks for their presentation. As for the food itself, well the samosas, were fine, I have had better but they were certainly more than acceptable. Korma dishes are cooked in a mild creamy sauce, and I have to say that enjoyed their chicken korma. The rice was cooked to perfection, and I enjoyed the rich aromatic spices. That is what I like most about Indian food, it is richly aromatic.

In the end, I would say that Bombay Tadka will give you a very pleasant and representative example of Indian food. I have had better, but I have had much worse. Though I wouldn’t call it the best Indian restaurant in the area, I would gladly eat there again.
